When it comes to snow, there are two types of people: those who like to stay home and cozy up, and those who love to explore the outdoors. With the first snow of the season behind us, we figure it’s the perfect time to share some of our favorite outdoor winter activities near Hoboken and Jersey City.

Grab your warmest winter gear and enjoy the magic of the season!

Campgaw Mountain, located in Mahwah, New Jersey, has a perfect activity for any age: snow tubing! No special skills are required, just show up in your snow gear, grab a tube, hop on a lift, and enjoy the ride down. Due to popularity, online ticket purchases are strongly recommended.

Skiing and Snowboarding

It’s impossible to think about winter activities without mentioning skiing and snowboarding. For those who want to stay in New Jersey, Mount Creek Resort and Campgaw Mountain are within 1.5 hours of Hoboken and Jersey City, making them an easy day trip. Of course, with New York and Pennsylvania close by, there are many mountains you can visit this winter!

Ice Skating

Head to Newport Skates, Jersey City’s only outdoor skating rink, for some skating fun! This year, purchase your ticket online in advance for rental and admission. You can also book small group and private lessons for those who are interested in learning new moves. After your skating session, head to one of the nearby restaurants for some warming food or drinks!

Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

The fast pace of skiing or skating isn’t for everyone. High Point Cross Country Ski Center has something for every skill level. With designated trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, you can opt to stay on level ground, take a scenic trail, or head to High Point Monument, where you’ll find the area’s best views.
