Jersey City has so much to offer, including beaches, museums, and excellent shopping. But one of our favorite things this bustling city brings to the table is its food. From pizza to curry, you can find a diverse and delicious selection of restaurants throughout the city. Here are just a few of our favorite must-try spots in Jersey City.

Sam A.M.

For our early bird lovers in the mood for a cappuccino, add Sam A.M. to your morning routines. The local cafe specializes in carefully crafted coffees and delightful breakfasts. The cafe has made such an impression since its opening in 2013. Visitors like the ones from NYC stop by for a bite. Their menu changes seasonally but is “chef’s kiss” quality all year round. Got a sweet tooth? Try their Jersey Peach French Toast or the Bananas and Berries Waffles!

Latham House

Family-owned and oriented! The Latham House takes pride in its personal and professional relationships in and outside of the kitchen. When preparing your meals, Chef Dan, father, and husband is continuously inspired by his childhood and large family gatherings. The mother and wife, Kris Yettra, is here to make your stay enjoyable. Their daughter, Emma, is a genius in the sweets department, and like her mother says, “her pies and desserts are bad-ass.” Stop by between Tuesday and Sunday to enjoy their family history and food.

Razza

If you think New York has a monopoly on the east coast pizza scene, think again. Razza can give even the best New York slice a run for its money. This wood-fired pizza palace takes pride in sourcing its ingredients right here in the Garden State, from the yeast for the dough to the cheese on top. They offer some unique flavor combinations, such as Project Hazelnut- a pie topped with ricotta, honey, mozzarella, and, of course, crunchy hazelnuts. This flavor combination is one-of-a-kind and worth a trip to Jersey City just to give it a try.

Taqueria Downtown

Taqueria Downtown has risen above its humble beginnings as a taco truck on the corner of Grove and Montgomery.  After moving to their current location in 2005, the restaurant quickly became beloved by locals and visitors alike. The Taqueria serves authentic Mexican food and tasty margaritas. It’s easy to lose track of time spending evenings in this laid-back atmosphere.

Harry’s Daughter

Harry’s Daughter is the perfect destination for those yearning for a tropical getaway. This Caribbean-inspired gastropub has it all, from delicious jerk chicken to unique cocktails served in the restaurant’s signature tiki mugs. Located in every nook and cranny, from the egg-shaped swings to the foliage-patterned wallpaper, this restaurant’s Caribbean theme is both enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing. This little gem delivers an addicting, unique-and delicious-dining experience that’ll have you coming back for more.

Biryani Darbar

In love with Indian food, we’ve got the hookup! As you may have guessed from the name, the Biryani is the star of the show. With 15 types to choose from, we’re sure you’ll be delighted with the perfectly spiced rice, which can only get better with Biryani Darbar’s yogurt or chili-peanut sauce. The restaurant also offers other traditional Indian cuisines, such as curry and tikka masala.

15 Fox Place

15 Fox Place offers a dining experience like no other. The restaurant is located inside the owner’s former home. There, you’ll find memorable family photos and knickknacks decorating the walls. The set menu changes nightly, so every visit is uniquely different from the previous. As a traditional Italian family, you’ll be served six home-cooked Italian-style courses. You absolutely must try their stuffed chicken and eggplant parmesan when the opportunity presents itself. You’ll want to clear your evening plans and come with an empty belly. The dine-in experience lasts over 2 hours!

DOMODOMO

DOMODOMO started as the first Hand Roll Bar in Manhattan in 2015 and has recently opened a new location in Jersey City. DOMODOMO offers a variety of sushi and hot dishes, but they’re best known for their exceptional hand rolls. This sushi roll is as much of a treat for the eyes as for the taste buds. It was designed by Jae Park, a RISD Interior Architecture graduate, in a modern minimalist style.

While these are only a few of the best places to eat and drink here in Jersey City, tell us about your favorites. Did we miss anything, or are you planning a trip right now?  Let us know!
