The weather’s heating up, and there’s no better time to plan a trip to one of New Jersey’s beautiful beaches. Maybe you don’t have access to a car, or would rather not mess with parking; there are plenty of advantages to taking public transport to get there.

Here are 5 of Jersey’s best beaches that can be accessed with public transport in a few hours or less.

1. Asbury Park

Asbury Park Boardwalk

Asbury Park Boardwalk

Asbury Park Boardwalk is the place to be for food, drinks, and, of course, the beach. Just hop on NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line and get off at the Asbury Park stop. There’s plenty to do in the area, which has an active live music scene ranging from punk rock to indie. You can catch a performance almost every night in the summer.

A visit to Asbury Park wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Asbury Park Bazaar. This seasonal market features vendors selling hand-crafted goods, vintage wares, and more.

Finish off your visit with a stop at one of the many food stands and restaurants lining the shore, such as Mogo tacos.

2. Point Pleasant

Depart from Hoboken via NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line and arrive at beautiful Point Pleasant Beach. In addition to the beach, be sure to check out Jenkinson’s Boardwalk

From an aquarium to a bustling sweet shop featuring chocolate-dipped wine bottles, there’s something here for everyone. The boardwalk hosts many weekly events, including Canines and Cocktails, a happy hour for you and your pup at Jenks Inlet Bar.

3. Bradley Beach

A quieter retreat, Bradley Beach is a great place to go for beach sports, a walk along the shore, or sunbathing. It is also home to a Summertime Surf school for those feeling adventurous enough to give surfing lessons a try.

4. Belmar

Right after Bradley Beach on the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line, Belmar is one of the most popular shore towns in the area. There’s plenty to do there, making it the perfect place to spend the whole weekend.

You’ve probably heard of stand up paddle boarding, and the Endless SUP Company operating along the Shark River is the perfect opportunity to give it a try for yourself. From paddle board yoga to a relaxing sunset paddle, this is an activity perfect for everyone.

There is also plenty of great shopping in the area, including A Paperback Exchange, a used bookstore that allows you to trade in your finished beach read for a new one!

5. Manasquan

Manasquan Beach

The third from last stop on the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line, Manasquan offers a beach slightly removed from town, the perfect place for some rest and relaxation. If you decide to head into town after your tanning session, you’ll find food and drinks aplenty, like Tacoholics tacos and Leggett’s Sand Bar.

Our beautiful beaches are one of the things that make the state of New Jersey so special. With plenty of public transport available, there’s no reason not to plan a trip for this weekend!
